How this learning target compares
REAL leads with practised disposition. Three comparable frameworks lead with different things. For this learning target, here is how each one approaches the same ground — and where the divergences are.
RSHE's mental-wellbeing curriculum focuses on naming feelings, judging whether they're proportionate, and seeking support. [rshe-foreword §1, rshe-pilot-extracts §2, §3] Attention as a topic doesn't appear; the curriculum has no progression for sustaining focus or designing conditions for it. REAL's LT 2.1 builds a continuous strand from Band A: students apply attention strategies, identify what disrupts focus, and at upper bands design conditions for sustained attention in their own work, including managing digital distractions. [real-framework-overview §31]
Welsh CfW
leads with understandingWelsh CfW's mental-wellbeing statement names "focus my attention" at PS1 and "self-awareness" through later steps, [cfw-pilot-extracts §1, §3] but doesn't progress to a place where students design and test their own attention strategies. REAL's LT 2.1 specifies that work across Bands A–F: at Band E, students "design the conditions for sustained attention in a piece of my own work — including managing digital distractions — and produce a written evaluation of how different attentional strategies interacted with different types of tasks". [real-framework-overview §31]
Persistence shows up in CASEL's Self-Management. At Grade 6–8 students "practice various coping skills to process thoughts and manage stressful situations" and "reframe a challenging situation into a positive learning opportunity for growth". [casel-pilot-extracts §22] REAL's LT 2.1 takes adjacent territory further at upper bands: at Band F, students audit their own attentional patterns across high-stakes work and propose specific adjustments to their workflow. [real-framework-overview §32] CASEL covers persistence in the moment; REAL teaches students to design how their own attention works.
This per-LT view is one of three lenses. The whole-framework essay sets each framework's centre of gravity; the by-theme view shows where overlaps and gaps cut across LTs.
